Dalvin Cook hosted by Eagles on official 2017 NFL Draft visit

Here’s an interesting one.

Dalvin Cook is in Philadelphia. The Florida State running back is meeting with the Eagles on an official pre-draft visit, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo. Cook is one of 30 prospects who will visit the Eagles leading up to the 2017 NFL Draft.

Cook is one of the most interesting (known) players to visit the Eagles so far. He’s one of the best running back prospects in this year’s draft class. There’s been talk about Philadelphia selecting him with the No. 14 overall pick.

The 21-year-old Cook played in 38 games with the Seminoles. During that time, he rushed for 46 touchdowns and 4,464 yards on 687 carries (6.5 average). He also had 79 receptions for 935 yards and two receiving scores.

Cook isn’t without flaws. He fumbled the ball 12 times at Florida State, including six last year. He’s also had some off the field issues as well with multiple arrests. The Eagles’ interest in bringing Cook to Philadelphia for a visit likely has to do with getting to know him better due to those incidents.

For more on Cook, check out BGN draft writer Ben Natan’s scouting report on him. Cook ranks No. 1 on BGN’s top 25 running backs list from this year’s class.

It is hard not to watch Dalvin Cook and not think of Jamaal Charles. Charles has been one of the best backs in the league during his career and his blend of consistency and athletic ability allowed him to gain at least five yards per carry in every full season he played, a remarkable and unmatched feat. The two runners are both extraordinarily gifted runners and receivers whose biggest concern is health and being slightly skinny for the position.

On field, there is no doubt that Cook is the best back in this class and his talent alone warrants a top 10 selection. The combine will be pivotal for him in terms of proving he has NFL size and also that he can get through interviews proving maturity. For the Eagles, Cook is the every down threat the Eagles desperately need who could serve as the bell cow in the running game while immediately becoming the eagles most dynamic option in the passing game. If he were sitting there at the Eagles pick, I am sure Jamaal Charles’ former offensive coordinator will be thinking pretty seriously about drafting the next great Eagles running back.

Cook didn’t have a stellar Combine so there are even more questions about his value. For what it’s worth, ESPN’s latest mock draft has him falling to No. 17. The same mock has the Eagles taking Christian McCaffrey over Cook at No. 14.
