Chase Daniel will be released by Eagles, per report

So there’s this.

So apparently Chase Daniel won’t be traded after all. The Philadelphia Eagles are going to release their 2016 backup quarterback on Monday, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

The Eagles have been working to trade Daniel in recent days to a team that would benefit the veteran signal caller, but both sides felt the decision to release him now was mutually beneficial. The Eagles and Daniel's representatives will work on potentially adjusting his contract to benefit both parties.

Releasing Daniel isn’t ideal because trading him saves $6 million while cutting him only saves $1 million. As Caplan notes, however, it seems like the two sides might agree to some option where Daniel is cut and the Eagles get to save more cap space than $1 million. This potential compromise allows Daniel to become a free agent and pick his new team as opposed to being forced to a spot he doesn’t want to go to.

The Eagles don’t need Daniel around anymore now that they have former Pro Bowl MVP Nick Foles in the fold as a backup.

UPDATE: lol
