Sidney Jones injury: 2017 NFL Draft cornerback reportedly suffers torn Achilles

Oh no.

NFL: Combine Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Some really bad news out of Washington’s pro day on Saturday. 2017 NFL Draft cornerback prospect Sidney Jones reportedly suffered an Achilles injury, according to Yahoo’s Eric Edholm. He had to be carted off the field following the last defensive back drills of the day.

This is really bad news for Jones. The young cornerback was viewed as the first or second best cornerback in a 2017 draft class that’s expected to be loaded at his position. Now he likely won’t even be able to play this season.

Jones has often been connected to the Eagles at the No. 14 overall pick in various mock drafts. Philadelphia desperately still needs two new starting cornerbacks, so this Jones news is bad for the Birds as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Jones’ draft stock. More importantly, though, let’s hope he has a successful recovery. This is a really unfortunate situation and it’s hard not to feel bad for the kid.
