Draft guru Mike Mayock has released his top five players at each position. With this coming out before the Combine, it could look a bit different when all is said in done in Indianapolis.
Let’s take a look at three of the biggest draft needs for the Eagles.
Wide receiver
1. Corey Davis, Western Michigan
2. Mike Williams, Clemson
3. John Ross, Washington
4. Cooper Kupp, Eastern Washington
5. Zay Jones, East Carolina
Corey Davis #1 is a mild surprise. Mike Williams has been seen by many as the top WR, but you can make a case that Davis is the better prospect, though Mayock doesn’t offer any analysis in these rankings. John Ross 3rd is standard fare. Cooper Kupp 4th and Zay Jones 5th feels like recency bias after both had noteworthy weeks at the Senior Bowl, but with the lack of depth at the position in this draft, there’s going to be a lot of variance between draftniks as to who follows right behind Davis, Williams and Ross.
Cornerback
1. Sidney Jones, Washington
2. Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State
3. Marlon Humphrey, Alabama
4. Teez Tabor, Florida
5. Tre'Davious White, LSU
Another mild surprise as Mayock has Sidney Jones above Marshon Lattimore, who is seen by many as the top CB. The top prospects here are so deep that you could put them in just about any order you like and it wouldn’t be outrageous, nor is Humphrey, Tabor and White rounding out the top 5.
Running Back
1. Dalvin Cook, Florida State
2. Leonard Fournette, LSU
3. Christian McCaffrey, Stanford
4. Alvin Kamara, Tennessee
5. Joe Mixon, Oklahoma
Mayock isn’t the only one to put Dalvin Cook ahead of Leonard Fournette, the consensus might be shifting towards Cook being the better prospect. No real surprises 3rd through 5th.
But there’s still a long way to go before the draft, and this is just Mayock’s first edition.
