On Friday, Doug Pederson announced he plans to play Philadelphia’s starters in the regular season finale. He didn’t say how long they’d play, but one NFL insider reports starting quarterback Nick Foles and starting offense will get three or four drives. Then Nate Sudfeld and the backups will take over.
With that said, the Eagles have made six starters INACTIVE for Sunday’s game. The list includes: Jay Ajayi, Nigel Bradham, Brandon Graham, Jalen Mills, Tim Jernigan, and Rodney McLeod. Rookie backup defensive end Derek Barnett is also sitting out.
The common theme with these players is that most of them have been dealing with injury issues throughout the season. Ajayi is being kept out since he’s an important part of the offense.
Graham was ruled out on the final injury report. He didn’t practice all week after suffering an ankle injury in Week 16.
Mills is inactive after being ruled questionable on the final injury report. Mills has been dealing with a lingering ankle injury. No need to force him to play in a meaningless game.
Bradham has played a ton of snaps this year. He deserves a break.
Jernigan has been dealing with a heel injury this season.
Barnett has been dealing with a groin injury.
McLeod has been dealing with a few injuries.
Rookie cornerback Sidney Jones will officially make his NFL debut today. He’s reportedly expected to get a decent amount of playing time.
