Eagles-Cowboys Game Predictions 2017

Who will win this week?

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The outcome of today’s Philadelphia Eagles game doesn’t really matter for them or the Dallas Cowboys. It’s a relatively meaningless game.

Despite that fact, I still think Eagles fans should want to see their team win. Moreso than in a “normal” Week 17 game that doesn’t matter.

By winning on Sunday, the 2017 Eagles will become the first team in franchise history to win 14 games. They’ll also finish the season undefeated at Lincoln Financial Field (8-0) and undefeated against NFC East rivals (6-0). It’d be cool to be able to look back on this season and be able to say those things.

Q: WAS THE IDEA REACHING 14 WINS, MOST IN EAGLES SINGLE SEASON FRANCHISE HISTORY, A TALKING POINT THIS WEEK?

Doug Pederson: I mean, it’s obviously something that this team … this team, it’s a milestone for this team. For 2017. To reach. They’d go down in the record books as being that, a great team in Eagles history, regular season. And those are things, having the opportunity to be undefeated at home, and things like that, those are prideful things. Those are things we talk about. Playoff teams, year in and year out, you look at the teams that are successful, and they’re always in the post-season, they usually take care of business at home. And we get another opportunity Sunday. It’s something I’ve mentioned. It’s not the motivating factor, obviously, but it’s something that we talk about, yeah.

Another reason why an Eagles win is preferable is because it’d be the perfect ending to a disappointing Dallas season. Can you imagine if Dak Prescott struggles against the Eagles’ backups once Philly pull their starters? Can you imagine if NATE SUDFELD beats the Cowboys? That’d be pretty humiliating for the Eagles’ enemy.I

If the Eagles don’t manage to win, it’s not like a loss will be devastating. Again, Philadelphia is only expected to play their starters for a limited amount of time. They’re not going all out to win.

It’ll be interesting to see how long Pederson keeps the starters in there. The feeling here is the offense will have a couple nice drives before Pederson benches Nick Foles and company. Then it’s Sudfeld time.

Call me crazy but I’m buying into the Studfeld (sic) hype. I think he might actually look OK today. Feel free to revisit this after he throws multiple picks.

Another interesting thing to watch out for today is the debut of Sidney Jones. It’s pretty awesome that he was able to make it back in time for at least one game. It’d be surprising if the Eagles gave Jones a heavy workload in his NFL debut but who knows. It’d be great to see him go out there and pick off Dak once or twice or thrice.

Along with Jones, there are some other young players to keep an eye on. Rookie wide receivers Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson should get some more playing time. Rasul Douglas should also play a good amount of snaps at corner. Maybe Nate Gerry will get mixed in at linebacker. Isaac Seumalo could get some snaps at center, which could be the best position for him in the NFL. Steven Means isn’t necessarily a young guy (he’s 27) but it could be fun to watch him get some regular playing time on defense.

The Eagles are underdogs in this game (-3), but I do think they find a way to win. And if they don’t, oh well. The Eagles will be playing a playoff game in two weeks. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are about to go golfing.
