Week 15 of the 2017 NFL regular season ends tonight with a game between the Atlanta Falcons (8-5) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-9). It’s an NFC South matchup.
The Falcons are currently sixth in the NFC Playoff Picture. They’re still battling to make sure they make the post-season. The Bucs could be looking to play spoiler.
As far as the Philadelphia Eagles’ rooting interests are concerned, there are a few schools of thought here. A Falcons win would make it harder for the Cowboys to make the playoffs. But it would also officially eliminate the Packers from the playoffs, which means Green Bay would likely shut down Aaron Rodgers for the season. That’s significant because the Packers host the Vikings in Lambeau this Saturday. A Minnesota loss allows the Eagles to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC prior to their Monday night game against the Raiders.
Tl;dr — I’m looking at this game as a win-win for the Eagles. If Atlanta wins, the Cowboys’ slim playoff odds get even slimmer. If Atlanta loses, Green Bay might play Rodgers against the Vikings and give Philly a better chance to clinch on Saturday.
