NFL is looking to bring an Eagles game to London in 2018

The Philadelphia Eagles might be playing a game in London next season.

According to NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood (via ESPN), there’s a desire to have London host the six teams who haven’t played overseas yet. Those teams include: the Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans.

On one hand, it would be really cool for the Eagles to play in the United Kingdom because I know there are a lot of Birds fans over there. BGN writer Jonny Page lives in London, for example. We have an active Facebook group (join here) for Eagles fans residing in the UK. Oh, and the Eagles just happened to trade for a London native this week in Jay Ajayi.

On the other hand, fans don’t want to see the Eagles lose one of their eight home games next season.

The good news is that at least one of the teams the Eagles are scheduled to play on the road next season happens to be one of the teams that has yet to play in London: the Titans. Maybe the Eagles can luck out and get matched up with them so that Philly doesn’t lose a home game.

Here’s a complete look at the Eagles’ 2018 away opponents:

New Orleans Saints

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jacksonville Jaguars

Tennessee Titans

NFC West Same Place Finisher

Washington Redskins (Div.)

New York Giants (Div.)

Dallas Cowboys (Div.)

The “NFC West Same Place Finisher” will likely be the Seahawks or the Rams. If it’s Seattle, that would be another one of the teams yet to play in London yet. But I have a hard time seeing the NFL take a home game away from them.

The 2018 NFL International Series Games are expected to be announced early next month in November. If the Eagles are going to be playing in London, here’s hoping it doesn’t count as a home game for them. An “away game” on a neutral field is obviously much more preferable.
