We continue our November edition of Philadelphia Eagles approval polls with head coach Doug Pederson. If you missed the Howie Roseman/Joe Douglas approval poll from Wednesday and Jim Schwartz approval poll from Thursday, check those out.

The last time we checked in on Pederson’s approval was back in October. He earned an 85% approval rating at the time.

I have a feeling his rating is going to be higher this time around.

How could it not? The Eagles are 8-1. The offense is clicking. His play-calling has been creative. The stats don’t lie:

  • 2nd in points per game (2nd in points per play)
  • 4th in yards per game (7th in yards per play)
  • 3rd in rushing yards per game (T-7th in yards per attempt)
  • 13th in passing yards per game (6th in yards per attempt)
  • 2nd in first downs per game
  • 2nd in third down percentage
  • 2nd in time of possession
  • T-11th in giveaways

Pederson’s job obviously involves more than just running the offense. He’s fostered a locker room that seems to have great team chemistry. Emotional intelligence! He’s overseen the development of Carson Wentz, the league’s MVP. He’s faced major injuries (Jason Peters, Darren Sproles, Jordan Hicks) and been able to win in spite of them. I really don’t know what more you could ask for.

A lot of people will say Sean McVay is the Coach of the Year. McVay’s done a great job with the Rams, for sure, but the Coach of the Year award needs to account for expectations. McVay was a hot name coordinator. Pederson was the exact opposite last year. I mean, a freaking former NFL general manager said Pederson was “one of the least qualified head coaches ever” prior to this season. Pederson has overcome way more doubt than anyone else.

He’s the Coach of the Year, and you should approve of him.
