There’s a lot of talk that the Eagles might make a deal before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. The latest buzz is that they might bring a “former” player back to Philly.
Remember the Frank Gore era in Philly? I mean, how could you forget. The guy was a legend in this town.
For real, though, there are some signs the Eagles might have interest in the 34-year-old running back. Zach Berman of the Inquirer speculated about it earlier today.
The trade deadline call I’d make if I was Howie Roseman? I’d check the price on Frank Gore. Eagles need a pass-blocking RB to help vs. blitz

Then Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reported teams have been showing interest in Gore.
At least two teams have discussed the possibility of dealing for Gore, according to a league source, though a deal is far from a sure thing.
Then Kyle Scott of Crossing Broad said he heard the Eagles are one of the teams that called the Colts.
Little birdie: The Eagles made this call. https://t.co/DPtUiAYq7c

Then former Eagles president Joe Banner had this to say in response to Holder’s report.
Keep eye on Eagles https://t.co/Et2qAGUvNq

So, yeah. There’s definitely some buzz about the Eagles having interest in Gore.
But why is that the case? Why would the Eagles want to give up an asset for Gore?
Well, the Eagles could use some help at running back. None of their current backs are true No. 1 options on a weekly basis. Gore’s pass blocking could help mitigate some of the pressure Carson Wentz has been facing, especially with Jason Peters out for the season.
Then again, Gore ranks 34th out of 44 running backs in pass protection this season, per Pro Football Focus. And he’s 34 years old. And he hasn’t been efficient in quite some time: 3.7 yards in 2015, 3.9 in 2016, and 3.7 in 2017.
Maybe the Eagles would make this move if the cost is something like giving up their 2018 sixth-round pick for Gore AND the Colts’ seventh. Or something minor like that.
Still, I don’t think would be a move that excites or makes a ton of sense.
I do think it’d be hilarious, though. We’ve always joked about Gore being a former Eagle since he had reportedly agreed to a deal here in 2015. What if the Birds actually got him and then went on a Super Bowl run?!
