It turns out that Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is NOT expected to be suspended for his hit on San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley during Sunday’s game. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Cox is still facing a potential fine.
Having to pay a fine sucks for Cox, but that’s obviously a lot better than getting fined AND having to miss a game, which an early report suggested was possible. The Eagles need their big Cox on the field. It looks like he’ll remain there.
Our friend Pat Gallen came up with a video angle of the hit that wasn’t shown on the broadcast. Watch below:
Here's the best view #CBS3 has of the Fletcher Cox hit in question on Joe Staley. Looks a bit high, Staley hunches somewhat. pic.twitter.com/iIXl0ZjISv

The NFL will review this play and likely make a decision on Cox’s punishment later this week.
Staley, meanwhile, flew back to the Bay Area after having to stay in Philadelphia following Sunday’s game. Sounds like he’s doing as well as someone who suffered an orbital fracture could be doing.
