UPDATE: Sounds like Fletcher Cox still might be facing a fine but he’s not expected to be suspended. Phew.

Original story below.
Well, here’s some unexpected news that nobody wanted to hear. The NFL is reviewing the play during Sunday’s Eagles-49ers game where Fletcher Cox broke Joe Staley’s orbital bone for potential discipline and possible suspension, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Staley’s injury occurred on Jalen Mills’ interception return. The broadcast didn’t show a clear angle of what happened (we’ll have to wait for the All-22 film), but you can see the moment when Staley goes down in the clip below (click here if you can’t see it).
This is pretty surprising news. It’s not like anyone accused Cox of being dirty or overly physical in the moment.
At most, Cox might only be facing a one-game suspension, but that’s hardly an insignificant loss for Philadelphia. Cox is one of the Eagles’ best defenders.
For the Eagles’ sake, hopefully the NFL finds nothing wrong with the play. Or maybe Cox receives a fine. Anything but a suspension.
Here’s also hoping Staley ends up being OK. Sounds like he won’t need surgery.
