NFL: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles own the best record in the NFL. They’re 6-1 through the first seven weeks of the 2017 season.

The San Francisco 49ers own the worst record in the NFL. It’s both them and the Cleveland Browns tied at 0-7.

On Sunday, these two teams will face each other. Something’s got to give.

The Eagles are obviously really big favorites to win this game. They’re the better team. They’re playing at home. They’re not the ones who have to travel from the West Coast to play a 1:00 PM game.

This should be a win for the Birds.

But it’s not always that simple. “Any Given Sunday” is a real thing. The Eagles have been beaten by inferior opponents before. Look no further than “The Joe Webb Game” or “The John Skelton Game.” The Eagles must avoid this week turning into “The C.J. Beathard Game.”

Philadelphia’s defense should be well-equipped to take care of business. They’re the best running-stopping unit in the NFL. If the 49ers can’t throw, that’ll force Beathard to have to carry the 49ers with his arm. That’s a lot to ask of a rookie quarterback making his second carer start.

The Eagles’ run game has the potential to be much more effective. San Francisco has struggled in that area this season; they rank 30th in rushing yards allowed per game. An effective ground attack will make life even easier on MVP candidate Carson Wentz, who should be able to move the ball through the air.

One X-factor in this game is the weather. As of right now, there’s a lot of wind and rain projected for Sunday.

For now, this forecast is essentially a carbon copy of the NYJ game. Likely to be wet, potential for downpours, winds occasionally breezy, but manageable. I won’t know who gets the heaviest of the rain until Sunday morning, it’s just too far out to know the specifics.

Here's everything you need to know about how to watch the game.

History Lesson

The Eagles are 12-18-1 in 31 all-time regular season appearances against the 49ers. These two teams last played in 2014, when Philadelphia lost in San Francisco by a final score of 26 to 21. That was a frustrating game.
