Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Who's the scariest team in the NFC right now? - NFL.com
Former Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware: “Where I’m coming from is, how can you talk about the Rodgers, and yet he has a great offense, but defense wins championships. That’s why I say Philly. If they can play consistently like they played on last night, Thursday night game, they can win games because something has to give. When the Patriots win their championships, when I won the Super Bowl, something has to give. You have a good offense and then the defense is mediocre. You can’t have a not so good offense. You don’t want to go into a score to score battle. Or you have a great defense like I was in, where we played in the Super Bowl, and we won.”
How Many More Games Will The Eagles Win? - BGN
How far can this Eagles team go? How many more wins do you see on this schedule?
Moves - Iggles Blitz
Former Eagles scout John Middlekauff is now part of the media out in the Bay area and says the Niners are shopping multiple veterans. He mentioned that RB Carlos Hyde is available at a reasonable price. RB is a spot where I would consider a move. Wendell Smallwood has missed two games in a row and isn’t sounding all that likely for this week. Corey Clement is effective in a limited role, but is only 25-71 for the season. Hyde and LeGarrette Blount would give you a heck of a 1-2 punch with big guys. You could have Smallwood and Kenjon Barner as the 3rd down backs, depending on who is healthy. Hyde is 73-332-2 for the year. I doubt he’d be thrilled about joining a RB rotation, but would probably love being on a winning team for the first time in a while.
Eagles run defense was utterly dominant vs. Panthers, with GIFs and stuff - PhillyVoice
In the first half alone, the Birds stopped the Panthers for no gain or behind the line of scrimmage five times. They did it another four times in the second half. And we're only talking about running plays here, so that's not even counting the two sacks by the Eagles defense (or the time Fletcher Cox hit quarterback Cam Newton's arm and forced an interception). When the dust settled, Carolina finished the game with 25 carries for a total of 80 yards, 71 of which came on Newton's 11 carries and another eight came on one carry from wideout Curtis Samuel.
The day after: Eagles somehow find a way to escape Carolina with a win - The Athletic
The Panthers trailed 28-16 and faced a 3rd-and-10 from the Eagles' 23-yard line with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter. Carolina was flagged for a delay of game penalty, but nobody heard the whistle. Derek Barnett made contact with Newton and was called for unnecessary roughness. “I don’t agree with the call. I pulled up when I got there,” Barnett said. “We didn’t hear a whistle. We would have stopped if we heard the whistle.” Added cornerback Rasul Douglas, “It just felt crazy in there. I think the back judge blew the whistle in the back of the end zone. So I’m pretty sure if I didn’t hear it, there’s no way in the world our D-Line heard it. There’s no way.”
A 5-1 Start And Some Of The Reasons Why - PE.com
You would have been pleased with a 4-2 record after six games. At 5-1? Pure joy, right? The Eagles are off to a great start to the 2017 season, and now as they take off for the weekend, not to return until Tuesday, we pause to assess just how the team reached this point.
With Philadelphia sky-high about Eagles, Doug Pederson trying to keep team grounded - Inquirer
Before the first game of the season, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins stood in the middle of a huddle and delivered a cheer that has been a popular rallying cry in those pregame and postgame gatherings: “We all we got!” The Eagles won that afternoon and players carried Doug Pederson off the field on their shoulders. It was easier then to formulate the us-against-them, nobody-believes-in-us message that teams often cite. It will be more difficult now. The Eagles have made a lot of believers with their 5-1 start, from the most optimistic loyalists to the most weathered skeptics. Even when they advanced to 4-1, they had a short week and were underdogs. The Eagles now have extra time to enjoy the success and will likely be favored in every game for the next month. With the players taking a long weekend before returning to work Tuesday, Pederson is trying to guard against the pitfalls of success.
Eagles are on top of the NFC, and their schedule gets easier - PFT
The Eagles’ win over the Panthers on Thursday night gave Philadelphia a 5-1 record, the best in the NFC. But their playoff position is even stronger than that. Philadelphia’s schedule only gets easier the rest of the way, meaning that even if the Eagles don’t play quite as well over their last 10 games as they have over their first six, there are a lot of winnable games left on the schedule. The Eagles only play three games the rest of the season against teams that currently have winning records.
10 most surprising Eagles from NFC East-leading 5-1 start - NBC Sports Philadelphia
Honestly, Robinson's career looked like it was over this summer. He was with his fourth team in four years, and he was so bad early in training camp and the Eagles had so many promising young corners you had to wonder if there was even a roster spot for Robinson. But not only did he make the team and earn a starting spot when Ronald Darby got hurt, he's played at such a consistently high level you can make a case he's been the Eagles' Defensive MVP so far. He's got a team-high nine knockdowns, two interceptions and he's just been consistently solid in coverage.
How the Cowboys can still catch the Eagles in the NFC East - Blogging The Boys
The Eagles are the team to beat in the NFC East, and the next five weeks are going to determine whether or not the Cowboys can give it their best shot.
Is it time for the Giants to move on from Eli Manning? - SB Nation
The New York Giants are 0-5 and pretty much everything about the franchise is bad right now. All the wide receivers on the team got hurt at the same time — most significantly Odell Beckham Jr. — and the defense looks like it’s falling apart too. One of the few stable things for the team has been Eli Manning, who has started more than 200 consecutive games for the Giants. He is the exact same quarterback he’s always been: not great, but not terrible. But now things are different. He’s 36, the Giants aren’t close to being a winner, and it’s getting harder to imagine another Super Bowl run coming with Manning under center. With the 14-year veteran due to count $22.2 million against the salary cap in 2018 and $23.2 million in 2019, it may be time for the Giants to look elsewhere.
