The Philadelphia Eagles signed Alex McCalister to their 10-man practice squad, according to an official announcement from the team. In order to make room for McCalister, the Eagles released practice squad wide receiver Rashard Davis.
McCalister was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season stashed away on Philadelphia’s injured reserve list. McCalister was pushing for a fifth defensive end spot on the Eagles’ roster but he lost out to veteran Steven Means this summer.
The Eagles placed McCalister on injured reserve again but later waived him with an injury settlement. Now he’s back with the team in a practice squad role.
As for Davis, he had spent some time with Philly in training camp before the Eagles brought him back to their practice squad last week. Now he’s already gone.
Howie Roseman likes to tinker with the practice squad so it’s possible we see the team shuffle some of these guys on and off throughout the season. For now, McCalister is back.
