NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles looking for an inside linebacker

Who do the Birds have their eyes on?

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to trade for an inside linebacker, according to a report from NFL insider Jason La Canfora. La Canfora didn't mention any specific names.

This report isn't hard to believe. The Eagles are in need of linebacker depth. Starting middle linebacker Jordan Hicks is very talented, but he's also injury prone.

Just a few days ago, it was reported that the Eagles were in "heavy negotiations" with veteran free agent linebacker Stephen Tulloch. No deal has materialized since then, however.

Perhaps the Eagles can't agree on a deal with Tulloch so they're looking at other options around the league. Or maybe this report is an attempt to pressure Tulloch into taking whatever the Eagles are offering him before they acquire another linebacker instead.

It would be hard to imagine the Eagles would give up much in a trade for a depth linebacker. Maybe a late round draft pick or a fringe player (any takers for Marcus Smith?) or something of relatively little value would get it done.

Nevertheless, this is a situation worth keeping an eye on.
