Giants bring back OT Will Beatty, who the Eagles had some interest in

One less potential Lane Johnson subsitute

Washington Redskins v New York Giants

The New York Giants have brought back offensive tackle Will Beatty, per Adam Schefter.

Beatty had been with the Giants since they drafted him in the 2nd round in 2009 and took over starting duties at left tackle in 2011. He missed the entire 2015 season due to surgery for a torn rotator cuff and was released by the team in February.

The Eagles had showed some interest in picking up Beatty earlier this month as a potential replacement for Lane Johnson should Johnson be suspended, but did not sign him. With Beatty now back with the Giants, there is one less veteran replacement option for the Eagles should they choose to go that route.

If the Eagles do add a tackle to fill in for Johnson, it most likely will come after Thursday's final preseason game. Rosters must be cut down to 53 men by 4pm on Saturday, September 3rd.

Also keep in mind that if the Eagles decide to sign a veteran who has been released that they may not do it until after the season opener on September 11th. Any player who is on a Week 1 53 man roster has their salary fully guaranteed for that season, while anyone signed after that does not. Teams traditionally sign veterans after that contract guarantee kicks in.
