The Eagles waived/injured cornerback Aaron Grymes on Monday evening, according to an official announcement from the team.
This news is unfortunate for Grymes. The former Canadian Football League standout was having a nice summer with the Eagles prior to suffering an AC sprain in Philadelphia's second preseason game. His injury occurred on a play where he made an incredible diving interception in the end zone.
Had Grymes stayed healthy, he may have made Philadelphia's final 53-man roster. It's not impossible the Eagles could sign Grymes to their practice squad once final cuts are over.
Grymes being gone could be good news for undrafted rookie free agent C.J. Smith. The Eagles gave Smith some first team snaps during their third preseason game. Smith could be kept as a sixth cornerback.
With Grymes gone, the Eagles' roster now officially stands at 73 players. The Eagles re-signed UDFA running back Cedric O'Neal earlier on Monday. All 32 NFL teams must have no more than 75 players under contract by 4:00 PM ET on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
In other news, there's a report out there that the Eagles have signed Philadelphia Soul defensive lineman Jake Metz. The team has yet to officially confirm the report. Metz is one of two Soul players who worked out for the Eagles on Monday.
