The Eagles are back in action tonight with a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. While the results of this game obviously don't matter, the Eagles will still be looking for a good showing out of their starters in what will be their last live action before the regulars season starts.
Doug Pederson is expected to player Philadelphia's first team unit for the entire first half and into the third quarter. The Eagles' starting offense has been pretty pedestrian with Sam Bradford at the helm through the first two preseason games. This isn't the end of the world because Bradford looked great last preseason and it didn't really translate into regular season success. Still, one would think the Eagles want to see their offense get going in this one. The Colts are going to be without six cornerbacks, including three of their best players at that position. This could be a game where Philadelphia's lackluster receiving corps might shine. Dorial Green-Beckham is an obvious player to watch.
Jim Schwartz's defense has really balled out this summer. The Eagles held the Buccaneers to nine points two weeks ago before shutting out the Steelers last week. They've come away with eight turnovers in that span, which, in case you didn't realize, is really good. A big reason why the Eagles have been able to take the ball away is due to the pressure they've generated up front. Now the Eagles will be tested against the best quarterback they've faced all summer: Andrew Luck. He should give Schwartz's unit a good test.
The most important goal for the Eagles is to come out of this game healthy. The starters will be playing for an extended period of time so they won't be as protected as they've been in the first two preseason matchups. If the Eagles can look good and stay healthy, they can call it a successful night.
Score prediction: 28-14, Eagles win
Bold prediction: Sam Bradford hits Chris Givens deep for a 42-yard touchdown.
