Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 8/18/16.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Dorial Green-Beckham ready for 'fresh start' in Philadelphia - Inquirer
"I feel like being in this offense, I can catch a lot balls, score a lot of touchdowns," Green-Beckham said. Green-Beckham said he showed up to the Titans’ training camp "in great condition" and did "everything I needed to do" there, including stay after practice and put in extra work. The Titans wanted to see more consistency from him, and he said he must focus on "eliminating mental errors." He also said his past legal issues were behind him and he’s matured since college. "Totally a whole different person," Green-Beckham said. "The off-the-field stuff is in the past, has been in the past. That stuff, I’ve never heard anything since then being brought up from anyone. That tells me I’m doing the right things."

Dawkins: ‘It Feels Wonderful’ Returning To Eagles - Birds 24/7
"It feels wonderful, it really does. It’s been set in my heart for a while of how to go about doing it. But everything began to kind of fall in place and here I am," Dawkins said. "It’s gonna be still learning about football operations and everything that goes with it. I’ll dabble in player development; I’ll dabble in player engagement; dabble in scouting and give my opinions in a lot of different areas. So it’s not just everything in one basket so to speak, I’m able to do a lot of things for this organization going forward."

Gifts to Seth Williams create conflicts - Inquirer
Since 2011, Williams has also received two complimentary all-access sideline passes from the Eagles. In April, Williams announced that his office would not press charges against former Eagle LeSean McCoy for a bar brawl in Old City with off-duty police officers. Last month, Williams' office declined to bring charges against Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor for an alleged sexual assault of an exotic dancer at a South Philadelphia strip club. A representative from the Eagles said that the passes are also offered to the mayor, fire commissioner, and police commissioner, and that Williams' second pass is routinely set aside for a member of his staff, including his security detail.

Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Steelers preseason game - PhillyVoice
Do the Eagles have a stud lockdown corner who is going to make the Pro Bowl? No, probably not. But they do have two professional corners, and legitimate starters in Leodis McKelvin and Nolan Carroll, as well as quality depth behind them. Carroll had a great night, as he was targeted (by my count) three times, resulting in a pick six, a pass breakup, and an offensive pass interference call.

Eagles' defense continues takeaway game against Steelers - ESPN
One reason to be concerned: Despite those four takeaways, the offense was able to generate only three points in the first half. There's a learning curve anytime a team switches systems. Add the moving parts along the O-line and question marks at some of the skill positions, and it could be a bumpy entry into the season.

Defense Rules And Other News, Notes -
If this preseason is a blueprint of what to expect when the regular season begins, the Eagles can expect the defense to lead the way. It’s certainly been that way through two preseason games and the latest example was a 17-0 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night at Heinz Field ...

Sam Bradford, Eagles unconcerned with lackluster 1st-team offense in preseason win - CSN Philly
"Not really concerned at all," Bradford said. "Yeah, you want to score touchdowns but it didn’t happen. I thought we did some really good things out there tonight. That’s why it’s the preseason. I don’t think there’s a lot of concern from me right now." On the drive before the 38-yarder, the Eagles were starting to move the ball, but had two costly penalties that negated big plays. One was on Zach Ertz and one was on Isaac Seumalo. "Some of the things we obviously have to clean up are the penalties," Pederson said. "That’s killing some explosive plays right now."

Game Review – PS Opener – PHI 17, TB 9 – The Defense - Iggles Blitz
Beau Allen – I wondered if Allen would be traded, or even cut. I didn’t see him as a good fit for the new scheme at all. He was a 3-4 NT as a Senior at Wisconsin and then for the past 2 years in the NFL. He looks like a NT. In watching the game live, I thought he was okay. When I went back and studied the game, I was blown away. Was that really Beau Allen? He was quick off the ball. He was disruptive. He used his strength and power well. I loved his motor. Used his hands well in shedding blocks. Had one play where he used a club move to get by the LG and hit the QB just as the ball was out. Used quickness on another rush and got a big shot on the QB. He had a TFL and half a sack. Based on what I saw, he not only will make the team, but deserves to be part of the DL rotation.

Will Beatty to work out for Carolina Panthers, source says - Newsday
Beatty, a former Giants offensive tackle who was released this offseason, has already worked out for and has been offered a contract by the Jaguars. The Eagles have also been keeping tabs on him while monitoring the appeal of a 10-game suspension for their starting right tackle, Lane Johnson. A reunion with the Giants, though, remains unlikely.

The NFL is experimenting with an extra official on the field this week - SB Nation
The NFL continues its experimentation with an eighth official in week 2 of the preseason, adding a middle judge in the defensive backfield.
