The Eagles fear rookie linebacker Joe Walker suffered a serious injury during the team's 17-0 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, according to multiple reports. Walker was ruled out for the remainder of the game shortly after he left the field.
Source says Eagles fearing that Joe Walker sustained an ACL injury tonight. Would be a tough loss. Rookie Lb had looked good.— Geoff Mosher (@GeoffMosherNFL) August 19, 2016
Head coach Doug Pederson didn't have an update on Walker after the game.
If these reports are true, this is obviously bad news for both Walker and the Eagles. The seventh round pick showed promise this summer. He also appeared to be the top backup at middle linebacker behind injury-prone starter Jordan Hicks.
Walker's potential serious injury could motivate the Eagles to bring in veteran linebacker Stephen Tulloch. Philadelphia was reportedly in "heavy negotiations" with Tulloch a few weeks ago but a contract never materialized. Tulloch obviously has familiarity with Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and his scheme.
