Thursday night was not a good night to be Caleb Sturgis. The Eagles kicker suffered a very unfortunate injury prior to Philadelphia's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
No K Caleb Sturgis tonight. Wasn't wearing helmet before game on field, hit on head by punt, suffered concussion

This almost sounds fake, but it's not. I can say I've noticed Sturgis warming up without his helmet prior to the game. Something tells me he'll decide to wear a helmet from now on.
Sturgis being out allows the Eagles to get a better look at Cody Parkey. The 24-year-old has clearly been worse than Sturgis this offseason. Thursday night will be an opportunity for him to try to close the gap.
Due to the nature of his injury, Sturgis won't be able to return to practice or game action until he passes through the NFL's mandatory concussion protocol.
