Eagles-Steelers Preseason 2016: Game Predictions

Who will win this meaningless game?

One week after kicking off their 2016 preseason schedule with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Eagles are back in action tonight. Philadelphia is set to play the Steelers in Pittsburgh starting at 7:00 PM ET.

Since this is the second preseason game, the Eagles are expected to play their starters longer than they did last week. Doug Pederson said the first team will play for at least the entire first quarter and possibly into the second.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn't taking the same approach as Pederson. Pittsburgh is going to sit starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, star receiver Antonio Brown, and running backs Le'Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams. That means Philadelphia's defense won't be so heavily tested. If anything, there's more pressure on them to dominate the Steelers' backups. It could be a good night for Jim Schwartz's unit.

Sam Bradford and the Eagles' starting offense only played three snaps last week so we'll get a more extended look at them this time around. Bradford really shined in preseason last year so we'll see if he can replicate his success. It might not be so easy given the Eagles' shaky offensive line situation and a dreadful wide receiver corps.

It's unfortunate for the Eagles (and the viewers) that Carson Wentz won't be able to play in this game. The rookie quarterback added intrigue to the end of preseason games where there usually is none. Philadelphia hopes to have him back in time for the preseason finale on Sept. 1.

As always, the key objective here for the Eagles is to escape the game without any major injuries.
