Eagles Roster Projection: Green-Beckham’s Impact - Birds 24/7
Picking between Grymes and C.J. Smith for that sixth spot is surprisingly tough. Malcolm Jenkins has been very praiseworthy of Smith, and Jenkins isn’t one to hand out compliments when they aren’t deserved, so I’m buying the hype. Perhaps JaCorey Shepherd — who has missed time due to a hamstring injury during camp — or Denzel Rice step up in the preseason, but I really like Grymes’ body of work throughout the entire training camp. I’m still not sure who will start Week 1 opposite of McKelvin, but I do think Mills will have a larger role than Rowe this season because the rookie can contribute in the slot.
Five reasons for pessimism at the conclusion of Eagles training camp - PhillyVoice
Doug Pederson may very well turn out to be a good head coach in the NFL. Then again, in his last press conference he called something a "mute point" and referred to a player's height as "heighth," sooooooo...
Risky Business - Iggles Blitz
You can see where Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson felt this was a move worth making. Beckham is a huge receiver. That’s something the Eagles don’t have. Beckham instantly has the highest upside of any Eagles receiver. Simply put, he had the kind of talent they felt was too good to pass up, baggage or not. The downside to this move is that Pederson is a rookie coach. And he doesn’t have some tremendous track record as an assistant. A young coach like that is better off with a team of grinders and overachiever types. He needs players to buy in to his ideas and actions. The 2016 Eagles can be a competitive team, but aren’t going to win the Super Bowl. This year is about building the team for the future. You want players that are smart, tough and who will play their asses off. That’s how you build a foundation.
After Close Call with Carson Wentz, Doug Pederson at Risk of Costing Eagles Big - Bleacher Report
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is proving he is not a cost-benefit analysis kind of guy. That became obvious in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' preseason opener against the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Week 1 preseason grades: Dak Prescott leads NFC rookies - NFL.com
Carson Wentz, quarterback. The second overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft teased Eagles fans with a debut performance against the Bucs that showcased his diverse skills as an electric playmaker. Although he was far from perfect, Wentz flashed outstanding arm strength, touch and accuracy when firing passes both from the pocket (if Eagles receivers hadn't dropped three of his passes, his numbers would've looked better) and on the move (during impromptu scrambles). In addition, he displayed the athleticism and movement skills that made him a legitimate dual threat at North Dakota State. Yes, he tossed a costly red-zone interception. He also suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs that has the rest of his preseason up in the air. But the bottom line is, on Thursday, Wentz showed patience, poise and judgment throughout the game while dealing with big hits and free rushers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' front line. GRADE: B-
Domo: Eagles' safeties tackling more duties this season - Daily News
During Billy Davis' three seasons as the Eagles' defensive coordinator, he seldom, if ever, mentioned the safety position and stopping the run in the same sentence. In his two-gap, 3-4 scheme, safeties were quasi-cornerbacks with limited run responsibilities. Tackling was way down their list of priorities. The way getting coffee is for a Fortune 500 CEO. Yes, Malcolm Jenkins had a team-high 104 tackles last season. But about half of those were on guys Byron Maxwell and Mychal Kendricks missed.
The Eagles' season is over - CSN Philly
Well, the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2016 season was fun while it lasted. So, let’s review: The Eagles played their first preseason game last Thursday. Sam Bradford played one series. Chase Daniel, in for most of the first half, looked like the second coming of Mike McMahon. Then, Carson Wentz played the second half, looked good marching the team down the field for a few minutes… and then threw an interception. And now he’s hurt. And since he’s not playing in the regular season… see you in 2017, Carson.
DGB: Low-Risk, High-Reward Move - PE.com
On the surface, it seems lopsided: The Eagles acquire Dorial Green-Beckham, an extraordinarily talented wide receiver in his second NFL season who potentially dramatically helps a position of need, and trade away to Tennessee reserve offensive lineman Dennis Kelly ...
