Eagles-Buccaneers Preseason 2016: Game Predictions

New, comments

Eagles football is sort of back.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles haven't played a football game in 221 days. That streak ends tonight as the Eagles will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field starting at 7:00 PM ET.

A lot has changed since the Eagles last took the field. Doug Pederson is now the head coach. The Eagles brought in a bunch of new players through free agency and the 2016 NFL Draft. Most notably, of course, was Philadelphia's selection of Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick. Everyone is excited to see how the rookie quarterback looks in his NFL game action debut. It could be one of the few times where Wentz actually gets extensive playing time this season.

Eagles fans will have to wait until the second half to see the future of the franchise on Thursday night. Sam Bradford and the first team unit will play a series or two before Chase Daniel and the backups (good band name) come in. Then Wentz will take over while working with the deep reserves.

The Eagles aren't at full health entering this game. A total of 10 players, including four starters, will sit out on Thursday night.

One would imagine this could be a pretty sloppy game because it's preseason football. The key thing for the Eagles is to escape the game without any major injuries while also being able to evaluate their roster.
