HBO's Hard Knocks premiered on Tuesday night, and everyone got to see Jeff Fisher and his mustache explain how he's fed up with going 7-9. That's right, the series features the Los Angeles Rams this year. There were also some Philadelphia Eagles connections in the first episode of this season, though.
First up, we got a look at how and why the Rams released current Eagles wide receiver Deon Long. As it turns out, Long broke a rule established by Fisher. Via Pro Football Talk:
The HBO cameras were on hand when Rams coach Jeff Fisher called Long into his office and reminded Long that there was a strict no visitors policy in the team’s camp dorms at UC-Irvine, and Fisher asked Long why he had brought a woman into his room.
Long tried to explain his way out of it, telling Fisher it was before curfew and he had no intentions of having the woman stay. Fisher listened to Long before telling him he’d broken a team rule that was non-negotiable.
"We’re going to cut you," Fisher said, adding that he’d handled a similar situation in the same way before.
Early in the first of this year’s five Hard Knocks episodes, Fisher was shown standing in front of his players at a pre-camp meeting telling them that his only rules for camp were to be on time and to have no visitors in the dorms.
"What part did you not understand?" Fisher asked Long in their meeting. "Sorry, but this is our world, man. We have rules and we have to abide by them. I thought I made myself really clear."
Long was released by Los Angeles on July 31. The Eagles then signed him a few days later on Aug. 5. He's a long-shot to make the team (no pun intended), but he's still eligible for the practice squad.
Another Eagles tie-in from the show was seen when Fisher called former Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles to release to him.

Foles wanted to be released by the Rams anyway because he was buried on the depth chart there. Foles ended up signing with Andy Reid's Chiefs not too long after being cut by Los Angeles.
I don't know if we'll be seeing any more Eagles angles pop up on Hard Knocks this year, but if you want to watch it still anyway it airs on HBO on Tuesday nights starting at 10:00 PM ET.
