There have been conflicting reports regarding the incident that led to the arrest of Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham earlier this week. Some reports indicate Bradham acted in defense after a hotel worker hit his girlfriend. The alleged victim himself, meanwhile, denies he ever did such a thing. For the first time since being arrested, Bradham spoke to media following the Eagles' training camp practice on Thursday. Here's everything he had to say.
What happened over the weekend?
“The case is still ongoing. It’s under investigation so I can’t really tell you exactly what happened. The main thing is, pretty much just trying to come out here [at practice] and be focused. Get ready for the season. There’s a lot of negative attention, obviously. Something’s obviously going to happen. It’s something I can’t control. So it’s pretty much one of those things where we have to come out here and continue to get better. I have to continue to stay focused on football.”
Do you have remorse or second thoughts that it even happened at all?
“Most definitely. You don’t want that to be part of your legacy at any time throughout your career. It’s my first year here, just getting started. I definitely didn’t want to start out with that.”
How difficult is it to have this as your first impression?
“It’s most definitely one of the most important things. The first impression is everything. Especially to the fans. It’s just unfortunate for me that I didn’t get the chance to play first. At least let me play first before you make an opinion on me.”
What was your conversion with Doug Pederson?
“I just pretty much told him what happened. Like I said, I can’t really put it out in the public yet, but it’s still an ongoing investigation. We had a heart to heart conversation about everything. We’re pretty much on the same page about things I need to know. I also apologized for being a distraction to the team and everything like that.”
Do you feel like your name will be cleared?
Or do you feel like you made a mistake?
“I can’t really speak on that part because it’s still going. I am confident [my name will be cleared], though."
Is there a chance you’ll be filing any counter-charges or things like that?
“I can’t really speak on that right now, either. But there’s some things that are going on.”
Do you expect to miss any practice time?
“I hope not. But it’s something I can’t control. So we’ll see. Pretty much have to see what [happens].”
What did you learn from this situation?
“Pretty much just, I’ve pretty much been good my whole life at staying out of trouble. Only two incidents in my whole life. This was the first time I’ve ever been arrested. It’s one of those things where I learned a lot. […] I was in a situation where things happened I couldn’t prevent. It’s just one of them things.”
Were you worried about your standing with the team?
“There’s always things you can be worried about. You never know what’s going to happen. There’s always a little concern about things like that. Pretty much confident … I knew things didn’t go how I wanted them to go, but I’m pretty much confident things will go right.”
The hotel worker says he didn’t do anything to provoke the altercation. Do you agree with that assessment?
“I mean, how many times have you heard my name going around doing something to somebody? It makes no sense.”
