A little-known quarterback by the name of Tim Tebow is reportedly set to speak at the Republican National Convention this week. You may not remember Tebow, who is never really mentioned in headlines, but he actually played for the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
Well, sort of. Tebow's run with the Eagles was short-lived. He spent last offseason trying to make Philadelphia's 53-man roster before ultimately being released in final cuts. Former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly reportedly advised Tebow to play in the Canadian Football League in order to earn another shot with the Birds, but that didn't happen. Instead, Tebow returned to ESPN's SEC Network as a college football analyst.
It's unclear why Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump chose Tebow to speak at the convention. It's not like the former NFL quarterback has an intense, devout following or anything. Maybe it's because Tebow hinted at being interested in a politics career.
In any case, I thought Eagles fans might be interested in a quick update on this former player. It's always interesting to see what the lesser known guys are up to after leaving Philly.
UPDATE: Tebow denies the rumors.
