The NFL Network began their annual offseason series of the top 100 football players on Wednesday evening. There weren't any Philadelphia Eagles players in the first set of 10 players revealed from No. 100 to No. 90, but there was one former Eagles player ... Jeremy Maclin. The former Eagles pass catcher finished at No. 93 overall.
In 2015, Maclin had 87 receptions for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. Maclin's first score of the season snapped an 18-game streak where the Chiefs had suffered without one of their wide receivers catching a touchdown.
The Eagles showed interest in retaining Maclin before he hit free agency last offseason but they obviously didn't try hard enough because he left for Kansas City. The Chiefs, meanwhile, tried a little too hard to get Maclin. The NFL punished Kansas City for illegal tampering. I've argued the Eagles deserve draft compensation due to the Chiefs' illegal interference, but that didn't happen.
Philadelphia really felt Maclin's absence in 2015. The Eagles were left without much talent at receiver. The position is still an area of concern for the Birds moving forward.
