Carson Wentz, Eagles sign contract to round out Philadelphia's 2016 NFL Draft picks

It's official!

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially agreed to terms with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft: North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz. ESPN's Ed Werder first reported that Wentz was expected to sign his rookie contract with the Eagles today. Here's visual evidence of Philadelphia's new franchise quarterback signing his deal.

Wentz's four-year deal is reportedly worth $26.6 million and includes a $17.6 million signing bonus. Mike Florio notes the deal includes offset language.

Offset language means that if the Eagles cut Wentz before his rookie deal ends, which they obviously hope doesn't happen, the money from the new team he signs with would be deducted from the total the Eagles still owe him. This typically isn't a big concern because top picks are rarely cut. Still, a dispute over offset language delayed the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Marcus Mariota, from signing with the Titans last season until late July. Now the Eagles won't have that same issue.

With Wentz under contract, the Eagles now have all of their eight picks from the 2016 NFL Draft signed and ready to go before rookie minicamp starts on Friday, May 13. Wentz is scheduled to address media on Friday starting at 12:30 PM ET.
