The Philadelphia Eagles are set to host their three-day rookie minicamp this weekend starting tomorrow on Friday, May 13. Players in attendance will include: the Eagles' eight selections from the 2016 NFL Draft, the 16 undrafted free agents they signed, some "first year" players, and a group of tryout players. A list of the tryout players has slowly leaked out. One of the names it includes is former Notre Dame and Florida State quarterback Everett Golson. Golson tried out for the Colts earlier this week but did not receive a contract offer.
Golson is more prolific than the typical rookie tryout player. He started 34 combined games for two of the most notable college football programs in the country. Overalll, Golson completed 61.2% of his attempts for 7,628 yards (7.9 average), 52 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He also ran for 546 yards and 14 scores. The downside is Golson lacks ideal size for a prototypical NFL quarterback. He measures in at 6-0, 199 pounds.
The Eagles already have four quarterbacks on their 90-man roster: Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, Carson Wentz, and McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Golson probably won't be offered a contract, but it's at least a little interesting to see the Eagles are giving him a chance. Maybe this will cause Bradford will demand a trade request again. OK, just kidding.
Here are some other players rumored to be tryouts at Eagles rookie minicamp. Note that this is not an official list. The Eagles might announce their minicamp participants later today or at some point tomorrow.
QB Everett Golson
