Even after the Eagles' massive trade, the team still has seven picks in the draft to reload the team. This draft is very top heavy, but there are a few positions where the class has solid depth. Receiver, running back and defensive line all have talent on each day for the team to supplement needs on the team. Of course, the allure of being unexpected has vanished from what the Eagles will do with their first pick, but there are still six other picks that remain shrouded in mystery.
First Round - Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota
Though I have beat the dead horse, revived the horse and then beat it back to death on how bad this pick would be, it is basically a given that Wentz will be an Eagle. The team has a long term need at quarterback and though there are better routes to be taken if the Eagles want a quarterback, the Eagles seem to love the upside Wentz brings to the table. The 23-year-old signal caller led North Dakota State to two straight championship wins and the Eagles hope that his tools, winning pedigree and high character translate into being the quarterback of the future. He has mountains to climb to reach his potential, but ideally the QB friendly coaching staff will help him along to developing properly.
Third Round - Christian Westerman, OL, ASU
The Eagles will let 75 picks go by before their next pick. However, they get an excellent player in Christian Westerman. The Eagles still need to add youth and depth to their offensive line and Westerman is a physical, nasty lineman who excels in the running game. With the current state of the line, there is still an unsolved spot at guard that Westerman could immediately push for. He fits perfectly with the team's philosophy of getting physical up front and he will be a very high level interior lineman.
Fifth Round - Tavese Calhoun, CB, Mississippi State
The Eagles have to supplement their group of cornerbacks. Despite Eric Rowe establishing himself as an up and coming cornerback and Nolan Carroll signing on for another year, the Eagles have to address the talent behind them. Calhoun is a long, well built corner who does bed in man coverage and is very physical. He would match perfectly with the brand of football Jim Schwartz wants to bring to Philadelphia.
Fifth Round - Daniel Lasco, RB, California
Through free agency, the Eagles addressed all but one of their needs, running back. The team gets a massive steal here in Daniel Lasco. Lasco's final year at Cal was plagued by injury, but he has dynamic ability when he is healthy. Lasco can contribute in the running game and the passing game and can eventually ascend to being a featured back.
Sixth Round - Kolby Listenbee, WR, TCU
Despite the presence of Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Reuben Randle and Josh Huff, the Eagles could stand to add more youth and speed to their receiving corps. Listenbee is a top tier track athlete and that speed is evident when he steps on the field. He is still a bit raw, but his upside is tremendous and the Eagles desperately need to increase their team speed on offense.
Seventh Round - Steven Daniels, LB, Boston College
Daniels is one of the most underrated players in this draft. Though he is not a special athlete, he is incredibly smart and physical. Daniels would be an excellent depth player who could eventually push for snaps in the base defense down the line. In the meantime, his smarts and physicality could make an impact on special teams.
Seventh Round - Drew Ott, DE, Iowa
This defensive line class has a ton of depth, so the Eagles could have a shot at getting a contributor like Drew Ott late in the draft. Ott isn't a great athlete in any stretch of the word and he is coming off a season hampered by injuries. Ott is incredibly physical and has a very high motor. If he can get healthy, there is a chance he contributes as a rotational defensive lineman who can make an impact on running downs.
