NFL Draft 2016: Eagles trade with Browns to move up to No. 2 overall pick

The Philadelphia Eagles made a big move.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, according to an official announcement from the team. Here's exactly what the trade looks like.

Philadelphia Eagles receive

2016 first round pick - No. 2 overall

2017 fourth round pick

Cleveland Browns receive

2016 first round pick - No. 8 overall
2016 third round pick - No. 77 overall
2016 fourth round pick - No. 100 overall

2017 first round pick

2018 second round pick

There's been plenty of indication the Eagles wanted to move up in the draft this year. They reportedly finished as the runner-up in the Titans-Rams trade that sent No. 1 overall to Los Angeles.

The reason why Philadelphia is moving up is clearly to select a quarterback. The Birds worked out and hosted all the top quarterbacks on pre-draft visits this year.

It's believed the Eagles will take Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick, though obviously that depends on what the Rams do at No. 1. It's been reported that the Eagles believe Goff will be going off the board with the first pick.

Philadelphia paid a steep price to move up from No. 8 to No. 2, but they've lacked a true franchise quarterback since the days of Donovan McNabb. Now Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson are tying their wagon to what will hopefully be the franchise passer the organization has solely needed.

Despite making this trade, the rookie quarterback isn't expected to play in 2016. The Eagles have committed to Sam Bradford as their starting quarterback this season. The Birds also signed Chase Daniel in free agency to be the backup. The rookie will likely be the third string quarterback and possibly inactive on game day.

It goes without saying this trade is a bold move for the Eagles. For better or for worse, this is a big moment in franchise history.
