Chip Kelly is bringing a former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback to the 49ers. It just might not be the one you expected. According to a report from Rand Getlin, San Francisco has agreed to terms with former Eagles backup Thad Lewis on a one-year contract.

The Eagles signed Lewis in late September last season. He was kept inactive as the third string quarterback for most of the year and never attempted a pass. The closest he came to the field was when Sam Bradford got hurt and Mark Sanchez was forced to start two games. Lewis was the backup to Sanchez in that situation.

One has to wonder if Lewis is the only former Eagles quarterback Kelly will bring to the 49ers. The team is seemingly looking to trade Mark Sanchez now that Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel are under contract in Philadelphia. Or maybe Kelly would take a look if the Eagles end up cutting Sanchez. Either way, it could be something to keep an eye on.

Lewis is one of six Eagles players who made it to unrestricted free agency this offseason. He is the first one to sign a new contract with another team. Who would have guessed?
