2016 NFL Draft: Eagles will host quarterback Dak Prescott on a visit

NFL free agency is just getting started but it's never too early to look ahead to the 2016 NFL Draft. According to a report from Chase Goodbread of NFL.com, the Eagles are set to host quarterback Dak Prescott on an official pre-draft visit in Philadelphia.

Note that NFL teams are allowed to host 30 different prospects at their facility leading up to the draft. These visits don't necessarily means a team is interested in the player; sometimes they're used to confuse other teams. The Eagles have tended to draft the players they've hosted in recent history, however. That may change now that Chip Kelly is gone.

Back to Prescott. The 22-year-old quarterback measures in at 6-2, 226 pounds. He played four years at Mississippi State and finished with 9,376 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions on 62.8% passing. Prescott ran for 41 touchdowns and 2,521 yards on 536 rushing attempts (4.7 average). He even caught four passes for 88 yards and three scores.

The Eagles are seemingly in the market for drafting a quarterback despite re-signing Sam Bradford and acquiring Chase Daniel. Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson has hint at the possibility of the Eagles drafting and developing a quarterback. Prescott might be a player who fits that mold. For what it's worth, Mike Mayock ranks Prescott as the fifth best quarterback in this draft class.

Dak Prescott had a tremendous opportunity coming into the week and he fully seized it. With a weak crop of quarterbacks in Mobile, Prescott brought his A-game the whole week. He was on point in practice passing against air, in seven on sevens, in team drills, red zone drills and his strong week culminated in him lighting up the game and winning MVP. There are questions about Prescott as prospective future starter in the NFL, but he put himself in great standing after a great week in Mobile.

Here's a scouting report on Prescott via CBS. They project him as a third or fourth round pick.

STRENGTHS: Scouts are most impressed with his development above the neck, showing above average awareness as a passer, recognizing things quickly and working through his progressions to easily load and fire.

Displays an ability to use his eyes and hold defenders and has a quick memory to move on from mistakes and not let the negative plays linger. Overall, he has a much more natural feel in the passing game than in 2013 and appears in complete control of that offense.

When he does step into his throws, Prescott can deliver strikes. He's a very dangerous runner, combining aggression, agility and the power to break arm tackles.

WEAKNESSES: Work in progress as a passer but has a live arm and good field vision. His footwork is inconsistent and he loses accuracy when his feet are not set.

Tends to predetermine some throws and relies on a lot of back shoulder patterns, something that got him in trouble against Auburn and Alabama. Has not shown the consistency to lead his team through the air in tough road environments when the ground game is shut down.

COMPARES TO: Tim Tebow, ex-Broncos, Jets, Patriots - It is the natural comparison, beyond just the connection to Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen, who was Florida's offensive coordinator when Tebow was in Gainesville. Although Prescott has a slightly better arm and more consistent mechanics, he and Tebow grade similar in several categories, including composure, mobility, power and leadership.
