The 2016 NFL free agency window has only been open for a few hours and the Eagles are already involved in multiple trade rumors. Philadelphia running back Ryan Mathews is available for trade, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The note about Murray isn't new. Rapoport has already mentioned that multiple times this offseason. This is the first time Mathews' name has been brought up in trade rumors, however.

The Eagles signed Mathews to a contract in free agency last offseason. He rushed for 539 yards on 107 attempts (5.0 average) and six touchdowns. Mathews was easily Philadelphia's most productive running back but he wasn't without his usual flaws: injuries and fumbles (3).

Mathews has a $4 million cap number for 2016. He can be traded for a savings of $2 million. It doesn't make sense for the Eagles to get rid of him just to get rid of him. He should only be moved if the team gets the right price in return.

With Murray and Mathews potentially on the outs, the running back position is looking more and more like a need for Philadelphia. Note that veteran tailback Darren Sproles is playing on the last year of his contract and will turn 34 before the 2017 season.
