The Eagles will host LSU cornerback Rashard Robinson on a pre-draft visit, according to a report from Bo Marchionte. Robinson is one of 30 prospects scheduled to visit the team's facility in Philadelphia leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.
The 20-year-old Robinson measures in at 6-1, 171 pounds. He only played 15 combined games for LSU in 2013 and 2014. He recorded 30 tackles, one interception, and five passes defensed during that span.
Robinson didn't play in 2015 because he was suspended indefinitely during the 2014 season. During his time at LSU, Robinson reportedly struggled to stay academically eligible. He also got involved in some legal trouble.
It's easy to see why the Eagles (and other teams) are interested in having Robinson come in for a visit. He has talent but he's clearly struggled with off the field issues. The visit will be a good for chance for the Eagles to better get to know his personality and see if he's matured.
Philadelphia doesn't have an immediate need at cornerback but they don't have a lot of high quality talent at the position either. Some team might take a risk on Robinson and let him develop to see if he can live up to his potential.
For what it's worth, CBS Sports projects Robinson as a fourth round pick. Here's a scouting report on Robinson via NFL.com.
"Strengths - Tremendously long athlete with cover skills to blanket his target in press-man. Recovery speed allows him to sit on short and intermediate routes. Can flip hips and accelerate with his man down the field. Smooth change of speed to mirror double movers. Thin, but not soft. Plays to his height and it often spells doom when he has receivers pinned against the sideline. In 2013, held then-Aggie Mike Evans to four catches for 51 yards. Willing to do his part when he has to tackle. Explosive from standstill and can close quickly on throws or receivers.
Weaknesses - Due to off-field issues, has limited game experience and ball production. Feet become impatient from press and he opens early at the first sign of a head fake. Spindly legs may be close to maxed out in terms of size. Run support may be an issue when he has to disengage against NFL size. Arrested in June of 2015 and charged with unauthorized entry in connection with a theft from the apartment of one of Robinson's former teammates. Has admitted to being "selfish" while at LSU."
