It was reported earlier this week that the Philadelphia Eagles are one of three teams interested in free agent defensive lineman Nick Fairley. On Tuesday evening, Twitter user @AllbrightNFL seemingly doubled down on the report by hinting it would happen "soon." According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, however, a Fairley deal should not be expected in the near future.
"Nick Fairley, I don’t think the Eagles are as in as people say," said Schefter in an appearance on the 97.5 The Fanatic Morning Show. "I texted a few different people. I don’t think you’re going to see that today and I don’t know if you’ll see that at all. We’ll find out."
Schefter reiterated this sentiment right before he hung up. "No Fairley deal," he said.
Whether a deal ultimately happens or not, It's not hard to see why people were connecting Fairley to Philadelphia. He played some of his best football under former Lions head coach and current Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Like Schefter said, we'll see if something changes moving forward. For now, despite reports otherwise, a Fairley deal doesn't appear likely to happen soon.
