The Eagles are set to host free agent wide receiver Chris Givens on a visit in Philadelphia today, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter. Givens visited the New York Jets on Tuesday but left without a contract.
The 26-year-old Givens measures in at 6-0, 203 pounds. He was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the fourth round pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Rams traded Givens to the Baltimore Ravens, who desperately needed wide receiver help, last season in exchange for a future seventh round draft pick.
Givens has started 31 games in 60 career appearances. He has 107 career receptions for 1,779 yards (16.6 yards per reception) and five touchdowns. He's also rushed for 42 yards on 11 carries.
Givens obviously has experience with current Eagles and former Rams quarterback Sam Bradford. The Birds need to add veteran depth at wide receiver so Givens could be a guy that makes sense for the team. He should come relatively cheap.
The best part about Givens' game is his speed. The Eagles have been looking for a deep threat and Givens has the ability to stretch the field. With that said, he's likely not much more than a role player.
