NFL Mock Draft 2016: Mel Kiper 2.0

This ESPN draft analyst has the Eagles taking an offensive lineman in his latest mock.

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released Version 2.0 of his 2016 NFL Mock Draft. The Philadelphia Eagles hadn't even hired a head coach when he released his Version 1.0 in January so it's a little more interesting to see who he has them taking now. Here's the pick at No. 13 overall, via ESPN In$ider:

"Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State - Philadelphia has a need at tackle, and Conklin has been a consistent performer over the past three seasons and will be ready to contribute as a rookie. Adding him could help secure their immediate future at tackle with Lane Johnson signed for the long term."

Conklin is the same player fellow ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has the Eagles taking in his mock draft. So this is kind of a boring pick.

We wrote about Conklin earlier this week when reviewing Mike Mayock's top five offensive tackles. Conklin ranks third overall at his position.

Conklin is a player the Eagles have been connected to in some early mock drafts. The 21-year-old Conklin measures in at 6-6, 325 pounds. Here's a scouting profile on Conklin via CBS Sports:

"Conklin is powerful and quick-minded to read/react in a flash and dominate in tight spaces, but he doesn't have the quick-twitch body control to consistently mirror in space. He's not a top-shelf athlete and will struggle with edge speed at times, but no one is going through him due to his wide base and contact balance. He is always in a ready position and rarely seems surprised, which compensates for his lack of elite quickness in pass protection. Conklin is well-coached, physical and a natural competitor, which makes him NFL ready from Day One."

Conklin's NFL comparison is former Eagles right tackle Jon Runyan.

The Eagles definitely do need some offensive line help after not drafting a blocker since the 2013 NFL Draft. Tackle isn't necessarily an immediate need, however, since the team seemingly plans to keep Jason Peters around for the 2016 season. Perhaps Conklin could start his NFL career at guard before moving out to right tackle when Lane Johnson takes over for Peters in the future.

Do you like this pick? Here's who came off the board before Philadelphia's pick at No. 13:

1) Tennessee Titans - OT Laremy Tunsil
2) Cleveland Browns - QB Carson Wentz
3) San Diego Chargers - DE DeForest Buckner
4) Dallas Cowboys - QB Jared Goff
5) Jacksonville Jaguars - DB Jalen Ramsey
6) Baltimore Ravens - DE Joey Bosa
7) San Francisco 49ers - LB Myles Jack
8) Miami Dolphins - OT Ronnie Stanley
9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - CB Vernon Hargreaves
10) New York Giants - DE Noah Spence
11) Chicago Bears - LB Jaylon Smith
12) New Orleans Saints - DL Sheldon Rankins

Kiper doesn't have Paxton Lynch, who has often been linked to the Eagles at No. 13, in the first round at all.
