Eagles News: ESPN thinks Philadelphia should sign Chase Daniel

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 2/18/16.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Five moves each NFC East team should make - ESPN
2. Sign Chase Daniel. Without an obvious avenue to a franchise quarterback at the moment, the Eagles should bide their time and work with the options they have. Mark Sanchez has an obviously low ceiling, but he's still one of the league's better backup quarterbacks. It would make sense to pair him with the 29-year-old Daniel, an unrestricted free agent who spent the past three years working underneath Pederson in Kansas City. Daniel is basically an unknown -- he collected $10 million for throwing a total of 68 passes during his three years in Kansas City -- but he's more valuable to the Eagles than he would be to just about any other team in football. It's far more logical for the Eagles to risk $6 million on Daniel in 2016 than it is to pay Bradford three times as much.

NFL Combine positional previews: Offensive guards and centers who could interest the Eagles - PhillyVoice
At Kansas State, Whitehair played RT, was moved to LG, then back to RT, and finally he found a home at LT. At just 6'4, he'll probably have to move back inside to guard at the pro level. Some believe he's a first-round pick, and that's where the Eagles would have to take him if they had interest. In a group of offensive linemen that mostly struggled against talented pass rushers all week during Senior Bowl practices, Whitehair was a rare exception and is getting buzz as the likely first guard taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. He could step in from Day 1 and solidify one of the Eagles' two gaping holes at guard, while also having the versatility to kick out to tackle in a pinch. Still, after the Eagles' season a year ago, to come away with a guard in round one would just be so bleh.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: Defensive Line Outlook - Birds 24/7
Depth may not be a bad thing, though, especially if we remember back to Jim Washburn's philosophy where he'd have his d-linemen go all out for a handful of plays before rotating fresh bodies in. I can see Graham getting the nod in running downs with Curry rotating in both at end and tackle while being featured in passing downs. Plus, Curry can always rush from the inside. Logan should be able to make a relatively seamless transition to 4-3 tackle. It's hard to have the same level of certainty when it comes to Beau Allen, who is more of a 3-4 nose. Oregon alums Brandon Bair and Taylor Hart currently remain under contract. Same for Marcus Smith, who has to prove that he can be an effective part of the DE rotation.

Should the Eagles do nothing at quarterback? - NJ.com
The debate about what the Eagles should do at quarterback is a good one. Should the Eagles re-sign Sam Bradford? Should they franchise him? Should they draft a quarterback? Should they draft one and sign Bradford? Should they draft one and sign Chase Daniel? One option that hasn't been discussed? Maybe the Eagles should do...nothing.

McCoy's attorney says Bills' running back 'did nothing wrong' - Buffalo News
An attorney for Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy told The Buffalo News Wednesday that his client "did nothing wrong" in the Feb. 7 nightclub brawl that sent two off-duty police officers to the hospital. As of Wednesday, no charges had been filed in the incident, which also involved three other men who were with McCoy and a third off-duty police officer. "We continue to investigate," Cameron Kline, a spokesman for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, told The News Wednesday.

Eagles Stay or Go Part 8: Travis Long to Byron Maxwell - CSN Philly
Maxwell wasn’t Nnamdi, but he was a disappointment in his first year as a big-money free agent. But it’s really not that surprising. He had started only 17 games in his career before signing with the Eagles, and for the first time he wasn’t surrounded by Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. So the expectation that he would come in and be a savior was unrealistic. But even so, I expected more. But just like with everybody else on defense, this is a new start, a new system, a new scheme, a new coordinator, and hopefully Maxwell responds and starts earning that blockbuster contract.
