Eagles News: Nolan Carroll wants to stay in Philadelphia

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 2/16/16.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

CB Nolan Carroll: 'I would love to stay' with Eagles - CSN Philly
Cornerback Nolan Carroll is set to become an unrestricted free agent on the first day of the new league year. On Wednesday, he left no doubt that he would like to remain with the Eagles. "I would love to stay in Philly," Carroll said on Comcast SportsNet's Quick Slants Wednesday evening. "Coming here two years ago, I just fell in love with how the city is and how the fans are, how the organization is. Everybody is welcoming. Everybody loves each other. That’s something you don’t see in a lot of organizations and a lot of people."

NFL Combine positional previews: Running backs who could interest the Eagles - PhillyVoice
Running back is a very under-the-radar position of need for the Eagles in the 2016 draft. Next offseason, the Eagles can move on from DeMarco Murray and save $4 million off their cap in 2017. Barring a monster comeback season from Murray, the Eagles will likely jump at that opportunity. Meanwhile, Darren Sproles will turn 33 in June and Ryan Mathews is effective when healthy, but he's rarely in good health. The Eagles don't have an obvious immediate need for a new back, but there's a decent chance that Murray, Mathews and Sproles will all be gone in 2017.

Franchise tag might be bad for Birds & Bradford - Daily News
THE EAGLES have a complicated, less-than-happy history with the franchise tag, which NFL teams can begin applying today to keep key players from becoming free agents. The Birds aren't expected to use the 2016 tag, today or at all before the March 1 deadline, to ensure the retention of their most prominent free agent, quarterback Sam Bradford. They still might sign Bradford, but they don't seem wed to him to the extent that they're willing to dedicate $20 million or so of their 2016 salary cap to the notion. They also aren't expected to employ the less-utilized transition tag.

Developing QBs - Iggles Blitz
RGIII – The great mystery man. Did amazing things as a rookie. Since then, his career has been nothing but injuries and controversy. I think putting him in a new environment could make a world of difference. That said, there are no guarantees he’ll ever get back to what he was.

What Eagles do the next few months will define the future - NJ.com
Don't listen to what anyone in the organization says between now and then. Instead, watch what they do. If the Eagles bring back the core of a team that missed the playoffs four of the last five years and then add a few more 30-something underachieving type free agents when the market opens next month they think they are good enough contend next year. If, however, the either release of trade over 30-types such as tackle Jason Peters, running back Darren Sproles, linebacker DeMeco Ryans among others and get more draft picks than they are looking toward life beyond 2016.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: O-Line Offseason Outlook - Birds 24/7
No big limb-stepping here, but I expect the Eagles to dedicate resources to the line both in free agency and the draft. Last season, this team put itself in a position where everything had to break right for the front to have success: Barbre had to meet the high in-house expectations and fill in seamlessly for Mathis; a competent right guard option needed to emerge; Peters had to continue his dominance; the unit needed to stay healthy... It turned into a complete mess. The Eagles will begin the process of stockpiling assets at o-line to ensure they're in decent shape when hard times inevitably hit.

Ron Jaworski believes Eagles can win with QB Sam Bradford, but … - Morning Call
"The question the Eagles need to ask is not necessarily the talent aspect of it, but is he the right guy for the future," Jaworski said Monday before appearing at a news conference at the PPL Center to announce that the Soul would be playing a game at the Allentown venue in July. "Is he a guy that can stay healthy for the future? Those are questions they have to answer.

New defensive line coach Chris Wilson joins Dave Spadaro in studio to discuss the state of the Eagles' defensive line as it transitions to a new front and his relationship with Fletcher Cox ...
