NFL draft analyst Mike Mayock released his first list of position rankings for the 2016 NFL Draft. As always, Mayock ranks the top five players at each position. The Philadelphia Eagles might be interested in adding a quarterback through the draft, especially since new head coach Doug Pederson hinted at the possibility. These are Mayock's top five passing prospects:
1) Carson Wentz, North Dakota State
2) Jared Goff, California
3) Paxton Lynch, Memphis
4) Connor Cook, Michigan State
5) Dak Prescott, Mississippi State
These rankings are obviously early. We haven't even had the 2016 NFL Combine yet. The NFL Draft is 78 days away. Still, it's interesting to see Mayock's opinion.
There's been a lot of hype around Wentz ever since his performance at the Senior Bowl. Multiple observers noted Wentz was the best quarterback of the bunch. Some project Wentz to go as high as No. 2 to the Browns, with the Cowboys also being a possibility at No. 4. Goff is another name that might be off the board before the Eagles pick. Some have the 6-4, 215 pound junior as their top quarterback. And then there's Lynch, who has been mocked to the Eagles a lot recently.
After the first three names, there seems to be drop down to the next guys. There are character concerns with Cook and him skipping the Senior Bowl arguably didn't help his draft stock. Prescott is known for being a high character player but he's not the most polished prospect.
The Eagles will potentially be in position to draft a new face of the franchise that they can develop. Pederson said he thinks this year's quarterback class is strong.
Which quarterback intrigues you the most for the Eagles?
