Eagles Inactives: Jordan Matthews out against Bengals

The wide receivers are going to be bad.

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Matthews has officially been ruled out for this afternoon’s game against the Bengals.

Matthews hurt his ankle in the Eagles’ loss to the Packers on Monday Night Football. He left during the second quarter, and returned for one series in the third quarter before leaving for the rest of the game. He was hampered in practice this week, and didn’t participate on Friday.

Conversely, Nelson Agholor, who was a healthy inactive in the MNF loss, is back in the lineup after what Doug Pederson framed as a mental health week off. It’ll be interesting to see how the second-year wideout bounces back.

As I touched on three days ago, the Eagles could be truly awful in the passing game with Matthews out. Today, their four wide receivers are...

  • Nelson Agholor
  • Dorial Green-Beckham
  • Bryce Treggs
  • Paul Turner

...which is very bad. Very, very bad. It does, however, explain why the Eagles are reportedly interested in bringing DeSean Jackson back this offseason. They need literally anyone.

Here’s who else is out for the Eagles:

OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai

Expected. Dealing with a knee injury which has sidelined him for weeks.

OL Dillon Gordon

Expected. Backup lineman.

OL Josh Andrews

Expected. Backup lineman.

DT Taylor Hart

Expected. Dealing with an ankle injury suffered in practice a couple weeks ago.

RB Ryan Mathews

Expected. He was ruled out on Friday by Doug Pederson.

DE Steven Means

Expected. Backup defensive lineman.

Bengals

QB J. Driskel

WR A.J. Green

S D. Smith

LS C. Harris

G C. Westerman

TE C.J. Uzomah

DE W. Gilberry
