The Eagles placed Ryan Mathews, who suffered a herniated vertebrae in the team’s win over the Giants on Thursday, on injured reserve.
The move was expected, as Mathews will require surgery and will miss a significant amount of time in the offseason. Mathews is the eighth Eagle to be placed on injured reserve this season, along with Joe Walker, Alex McAlister, Ron Brooks, Matt Tobin, Jon Dorenbos, Wendell Smallwood, and Kenjon Barner.
No corresponding roster move has been announced, though on Friday Doug Pederson did indicate the team would sign a third running back to back up Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall.
