Thursday Night Football, Week 13: Cowboys at Vikings

Rooting for the Cowboys is gross, but, alas.

NFL: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Well, it’s to this: it’s in Eagles fans’ best interest to root for the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s going to be a little icky, and you might want to take a shower before you go to bed, but the Cowboys winning against the Vikings on Thursday Night Football is the best thing for the Eagles in the long-term.

With the Birds’ playoff chances likely shot (sure, they’re still mathematically alive, but c’mon), fans’ most rabid rooting interest right now should be for whichever team is facing the Minnesota Vikings.

If you recall, the Vikings traded the Eagles their first-round draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft for Sam Bradford. (Ha!) In the early going, it seemed the Vikings were going to the playoffs, and the first round pick wasn’t going to be much to look at.

But!

The Vikings, thanks to a combination of killer injuries on offense and a lack of team-lifting talent at quarterback, have lost five of their last six games. There’s a good chance they finish the season 8-8 at best. It could even be 7-9 if they simply implode down the stretch, which would be an Eagles fan’s dream.

So, in short: rooting agains the Vikings each week is the goal from here on out. And that starts tonight by pulling for the (get ready) NFC-best Dallas Cowboys.
