The bye week is over. No more waiting (except for a few more hours). It’s game day.
The Lions are looking extremely vulnerable. First, they’re missing three starters, the key being Ziggy Ansah. The Eagles might be without Bennie Logan but look otherwise healthy. Advantage Eagles. Second, the Eagles are coming off the bye, which is another advantage, though the Lions being at home negates that a bit. But most importantly, the Lions just aren’t very good. Their defense is really bad even with Ansah, Carson Wentz could have a big game. The Matthew Stafford-Marvin Jones connection is pretty strong, but their running game is a mess and their offensive line should have problems all day with the Eagles pass rush.
But.... going 4-0 is hard, no matter who the opponent. The Eagles haven’t turned the ball over yet this season. At some point that is going to change. As will the defense getting at least a turnover in every game. That’s okay though. A little adversary isn’t so bad. The Eagles have had the lead for the vast majority of all their games so far, their biggest deficit was being down 7-3 to the Bears. They’ve never really been tested. And while the Lions don’t look to offer much of a test, coming off the bye can give us a good glimpse of the make up of this team. A well coached, well led team should pick up right where they left off, which for the Eagles is a close first half and then a dominant second half. Perform at least that well and we’re another game closer to being convinced that the 2016 Eagles aren’t a team off to a hot start but a good team off to a good start.
