Oh man, Chip. You never fail to amaze me.
The Eagles, you might have heard, have been gaming the NFL’s practice squad system this year by releasing and re-signing the same two players, JaCorey Shepherd and Darrell Greene, back and forth each week this year. It’s been my favorite storyline. I wrote about it five times.
Well, on Monday, Chip Kelly’s San Francisco 49ers did this:
The #49ers have signed CB JaCorey Shepherd and placed CB Chris Davis on Injured Reserve.https://t.co/QwxIOEObSJ pic.twitter.com/zXYGEurPcd

It was one of the weeks Shepherd was off the practice squad instead of on it. With Chris Davis heading to injured reserve, the 49ers needed a cornerback. Do you think Chip’s team was really going to miss a chance to mess with Howie Roseman’s practice squad strategy?
Nope.
And thus, the incredible JaCorey Shepherd-Darrell Greene saga comes to an end, not with a bang but a whimper.
