So, you know that report about Jon Gruden being interested in coaching the Philadelphia Eagles? Multiple reporters are now shutting that rumor down hard:
https://t.co/4I2tPRALVm story reported Jon Gruden had interest in becoming #Eagles HC. Got response from Gruden 2night. "I'm not interested"
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) January 8, 2016
This Jon Gruden interest in the Eagles stuff is ridiculous. Not happening and not discussed
— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 8, 2016
Eskin's report is obviously the most noteworthy thing here. He claims to have received a firm denial from Gruden himself.
But even if Gruden was interested in the Eagles' job, there's not much indication the interest is mutual. The Daily News reports Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie is currently most interested in Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson and Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase. The Eagles had a chance to meet with Gase but not with Pederson yet.
Gruden's name often comes up in coaching searches each year but it never amounts to anything. He's been out of the league since 2008 and it seems like he's happy with his job at ESPN.
