Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has met with the San Francisco 49ers regarding their vacancy, according to a report from Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. This report marks the first time Kelly received an interview since being fired by the Eagles last week.
The 49ers have reportedly been "strongly considering" Kelly since firing former head coach Jim Tomsula. Here's why Kelly landing in San Francisco makes some sense:
Now that the 49ers officially have a vacancy, Kelly could be a favorite to replace Tomsula. Kelly has a good relationship with 49ers senior personnel executive Tom Gamble, whom was fired by Philadelphia last offseason. Kelly originally brought Gamble to Philly to be his hand picked personnel guy.
For what it's worth, gambling odds favor Kelly as the significant favorite to land the 49ers job.
It would be interesting to see Kelly end up with the 49ers. There's been a lot of drama there in recent years, which led to Jim Harbaugh getting fired despite being so successful. Can Kelly get along with general manager Trent Baalke and the York family?
And if not, is this one of the only NFL teams still interested in Kelly? The former Eagles coach reportedly has a soft market. Kelly was spotted in Alabama earlier this week.
